About Me

My name is Hanneke and as an integrative counsellor I place my clients and their individual needs at the centre of my work.

I am a fully qualified practitioner and committed to ongoing CPD to keep my practice relevant and up to date. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their ethical framework. I also have an enhanced DBS in place.

As an integrative counsellor I am able to draw from an array of therapeutic skills and approaches. In our sessions I will meet you wherever you are in your life right now and will align my approach with what is most useful to support you in the moment. Whilst doing so I will ensure that we work at a pace that feels right and manageable for you.

Through previous professional roles I developed extensive experience in the fields of neurodiversity and SEND. I can tailor my counselling sessions to incorporate different processing styles and needs; including sensory processing differences. I also provide therapeutic support for parents, carers and siblings over the age of 14.

Background and Experience

I spent my formative years in the Netherlands and first visited England during my university years; work experience developed into a job opportunity and I subsequently settled in the Bedfordshire area in 2004.

My professional background is in the education sector, where I provided support and consultations for a diverse range of professionals, children, young people and their families. My work involved promoting understanding and support in the areas of neurodiversity, special educational needs, emotional well-being etc.

In my thirties, I sought counselling to work through unresolved issues from my past. I noticed that I had increasingly started feeling stuck and dissatisfied with the barriers and limitations they presented in my adult life. Having experienced the powerful impact of counselling for myself, I decided to make it my vocation and have since enjoyed working with a broad range of clients in my own practice and in local counselling and well-being practices.

Studies and research in the field of environmental sensitivity (Michael Pluess) and/or heightened sensitivity (Elaine Aron) are one of my passionate interests. Sensitivity is a personality trait (just like introversion and extraversion) affecting about 20% of the population and related awareness and understanding can prove to be an influential discovery towards increased well-being, self-care and acceptance of self.
